Two Research Associates
on ATLAS
The University of Regina is
seeking two
research associates to work on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron
Collider at Cern. One of the two successful candidates will be based at Cern
and will have the opportunity to strongly contribute to Geant4
simulation of the ATLAS detector, software and hardware of the high
level trigger, calibration of the electromagnetic calorimeter , and the
preparation
for
the first physics data analysis.
The
second position will be based at Regina
and will involve contribution to Grid computing, developement of
algorithms
for particle identification, validation of data challenge 3, software
development and code performance of the high level trigger, and the
preparation for the first physics data
analysis. The
Candidate based at Regina will also have the opportunity to participate
in teaching at the
university and will travel frequently to Cern.
Members of the Regina group are involved in the development of
algorthims for electrons/photons and taus identification, Geant4
simulation and validation of the electromagnetic calorimeter, studies
of
the ATLAS potential for a large variety of scenarios beyond the
standard model, and preparation for early physics data analysis. We are
also joining the high level trigger effort and we expect the
successful candidates to contribue to the software
infrastructure, code performance, and hardware.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D in experimental high energy physics
and
should have strong background in C++/Object Oriented programming,
scripting, and
ROOT. Both positions are available immediately but the starting
date is negociable. Salary will
be competitive
and will depend on experience.
Interested candidates should indicate the position for which they
would like to be considered, submit a curriculum vitae, a publication
list, a statement of their present and future research interests, and
the names and addresses of at least three referees. The nominal
deadline for the receipt of applications is 15 August 2006, but the
search will continue until both positions are filled.
Applications should be sent via email to Prof. Kamal Benslama at kamal.benslama@cern.ch. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide hard copies of their applications, including the letters of reference.
All qualified candidates are strongly encouraged
to
apply; however, in case of equal qualification, Canadian citizens and
permanent residents will be given priority
