Physics Department
University of Regina

The Department of Physics at the University of Regina invites applications for M.Sc and Ph.D positions in the field of experimental particle and high energy physics.

The primary emphasis of our department is particle and high energy physics.  As a result of this deliberate selection and focusing of efforts, we are able to ensure that each student receives the best possible education, and faculty are able to provide personalized instruction in an encouraging and productive environment.  We offer the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees.  Faculty members and graduate students pursue their research locally, as well as elsewhere in Canada, the United States and Europe.  The department is an associate member of the TRIUMF subatomic physics laboratory in Vancouver, is an institutional member of the Institute of Particle Physics in Canada, has a close relationship with the Jefferson Laboratory in Newport News, Virginia, USA, and we are presently joining the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland

The Physics Department at Regina has  significant computing and detector development infrastructure in support of its particle physics program provided by NSERC, CFI, the DOE/USA, and the University of Regina.  Specifically, the GlueX effort is centered on the research and development of the electromagnetic barrel calorimeter and its innovative read-out systems and the simulations of its performance in connection to all other detector elements. Inquiries about Gluex should be addressed to Prof. George Lolos at: George.Lolos@uregina.ca.

The ATLAS program is supported by NSERC and the University of Regina. Members of the ATLAS-Regina group are involved in searches for new physics beyond the standard model, such as supersymmetry and extra-dimensions, Higgs searches, algorithms for particle identifications, computing and the ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter. We are also in the process of  joining the high level trigger effort. Inquiries about the ATLAS program at Regina should be sent to Prof. Kamal Benslama at: benslama@nevis.columbia.edu.

Students interested in graduate studies at the university of Regina are directed online (www.phys.uregina.ca/grad/) for details on the application process. Formal applications for graduate studies at the University of Regina should be sent to:

A summary (1 to 2 pages) of the research experience must be enclosed with the applications. We anticipate that the Ph.D. positions will involve frequent travel to and/or extended stay at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland ( for positions on ATLAS) or at The Jefferson Laboratory in Newport News, Virginia (for positions on Gluex).
