 Ph.D Positions on ATLAS

The Department of Physics at the University of Regina invites applicants for graduate studies leading to the Ph.D. degree in experimental high energy physics. The successful candidates will join our efforts on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.

The emphases of our department are nuclear, particle and high energy physics. As a result of this deliberate selection and focusing of efforts, we are able to ensure that each student receives the best possible education, and faculty are able to provide personalized instruction in an encouraging and productive environment. We offer the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. Faculty members and graduate students pursue their research locally, and at locations elsewhere in Canada, the United States, Europe and Japan. The department is an associate member of the TRIUMF subatomic physics laboratory in Vancouver, is an institutional member of the Institute of Particle Physics in Canada, and has a close relationship with the Jefferson Laboratory in Newport News, Virginia, USA. Presently, we are joining the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

The current interests of the ATLAS Regina group include searches for new physics beyond the standard model, such as supersymmetry and extra-dimensions, higgs searches, algorithms for particle identification, Grid computing, calibration of ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter, and software development for the high level trigger. Students interested in joining the ATLAS group in Regina should contact Prof. Kamal Benslama at: kamal.benslama@cern.ch.

A summary (1 to 2 pages) of the research experience must be enclosed with the applications. We anticipate that the Ph.D. positions on ATLAS will involve frequent travel to and/or extended stay at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

The deadline for the January admission is 15 August 2006. Formal applications for graduate studies at the University of Regina should be sent to:
