 Two Research Associates on ATLAS

The University of Regina is joining the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at Cern and seeks two postdoctoral research associates to work on ATLAS. One of the two successful candidates will be based at Cern and will have the opportunity to strongly contribute to Geant4 simulation of the ATLAS detector, software development of the high level trigger, calibration of the electromagnetic calorimeter , and the preparation for the first physics data analysis. The second position will be based at Regina and will involve contribution to Grid computing, development of algorithms for particle identification, validation of data challenge 3, software development and code performance of the high level trigger, and the preparation for the first physics data analysis. The Candidate based at Regina will also have the opportunity to participate in teaching at the university and will travel frequently to Cern.

Members of the Regina group are involved in the development of algorithms for electron/photon and tau identification, Geant4 simulation and validation of the electromagnetic calorimeter, studies of the ATLAS potential for a large variety of scenarios beyond the standard model, and preparation for early physics data analysis.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D in experimental high energy physics and should have strong background in C++/Object Oriented programming, scripting, and ROOT. Both positions are available immediately but the starting date is negotiable. Salary will be competitive and will depend on experience.

Interested candidates should indicate the position for which they would like to be considered, submit a curriculum vitae, a publication list, a statement of their present and future research interests, and the names and addresses of at least three referees. The nominal deadline for the receipt of applications is 1 August 2006, but the search will continue until both positions are filled.

Applications should be sent via email to Prof. Kamal Benslama at kamal.benslama@cern.ch. Short listed candidates will be asked to provide hard copies of their applications, including the letters of reference.

The University of Regina is committed to employment equity. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. The University of Regina is committed to achieving a representative workforce. Qualified diversity group members are encouraged to self identify on their application.
